Self-analysis via tag cloud

If you write a blog, then you probably know about post tags - or labels, as they're called here on blogger, though for some unknown reason I can't manage to use that verbiage. You write an entry and select from a list of common tags (subjects) or create a new one, phrases relating to your post. Tags make searching easier for your readers and allow them to read similar posts you've written.

If you want something more than just a simple list of tags relating to your posts, you can usually substitute what is called a "tag cloud". Take a look at my right-hand sidebar - you'll notice all the tags (or at least the most frequent ones) I've chosen for my posts. The more frequently-used tags appear in larger type.

So... looking at my tag cloud, I can do sort of a self-analysis, can't I? I write a lot about family which is the biggest tag and certainly something to be proud of. Another big one is kids followed by photos, recipes and travel. Other popular ones are food, football and just for fun. Do these words sum me up? Maybe. At least they're a part of who I am, so it stands to reason that I'd write about them a lot. But I do wish some tags were bigger - like reflections, thoughts and useful stuff. With that in mind, and with the inspiration of a few of the blogs that I like to read, I'm resolving to write more insightfully and thoughtfully. I think I's also like to include more posts with tags like silliness and writing, but I do also promise not to lose sight of those large-type tags - they very well should play a big part in my blog.

Hmmm... looks like I'll be able to add to the volume of those tags I've been wanting to concentrate on!
