February highlights
Well as you can tell from my lack of time to blog, work has been busy. I worked til 10pm two nights last week, and it was steady before that as well. I have a conference this week and have been wrapping up final details, which is so time consuming!
We continue to enjoy Justin's lacrosse games and Eric had his first game of the season on the 26th. Both boys are good players - and Justin was asked to join the JV team which is a huge opportunity for him, an 8th grader (we're very proud!). Not sure how much playing time he will get but he's better than some of the 9th and 10th graders, so we'll see. Just the experience alone is great for him.
Unfortunately Eric didn't fare as well on Saturday. He played great, but at the end of the first half, he twisted his knee and fell to the ground, writhing in pain. Urgent Care confirmed there was no break, and we took him for an MRI last night. Results come in today, we are hoping he does not need surgery. Here are some great shots of him playing the other day...

Eric got a new job! He started a couple weeks ago and seems to really be enjoying it. He's working as a busboy/cleanup guy for a local barbecue restaurant. It's only about a mile from our house and he's getting plenty of hours, so we're all happy about it. He's thrilled that he gets a free meal on workdays and 25% off if we come in with him as a family. We are praying that his knee injury does not keep him from missing too much work, or worse, being let go.

I've become a bit of an Anglophile recently...
- Terry and I enjoyed a much-deserved date night - we went to see The King's Speech and loved it. Naturally we were rooting for it and Colin Firth to win Oscars on Sunday, well deserved!
- Recently I completed the book The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
which I highly recommend. It's set just after WWII and revolves around the Channel Islands' occupation by the Germans. Very interesting and a wonderful story to boot.
- I was also addicted to the PBS broadcast of Masterpiece Classics: Downton Abbey - a British series taking place just after the sinking of the Titanic. Looking forward to the next season, though it may be several months.
- Ricky Gervais has to be one of the funniest people around. We've been watching his series on the Science Channel called An Idiot Abroad as well as HBO's Ricky Gervais Show
. Usually there's a bit of humor, then suddenly you are catapulted into fits of uncontrollable laughter. I first discovered his HBO show when traveling in January - it had me laughing so hard I was crying.
February birthday celebrations included Eric on the 13th (he's a whopping 19 now!) and Suzy on the 18th (she's going strong at 77). Among the birthdays of other family and friends, we were thrilled to welcome a new nephew into the family - Isaac was born to Tom (Terry's brother) and his wife Margaret. Aren't they both beautiful?
In March we look forward to...
- My conference being over (LOL)
- The kids' school break
- St. Patrick's Day
- LAX, LAX, LAX!
