I love summer
I said that today and my husband said "WHY????" I know, we live in Arizona, the most arid, hot climate in all of the United States (with maybe the exception of Death Valley), but I do, I love it.
Just sitting out by the pool in the warm air, enjoying an icy cold Diet Coke or maybe a Land Shark beer with our chips & salsa, then getting in to enjoy the (for now) cool water, float on the floatie.... ahhh. That just says "summer" doesn't it?
Duke hates the pool. I think he's just really afraid of it. Last year (the first summer we had him) we wanted to make sure he knew how to get out if he ever fell in. So weput threw him in and guided him to swim toward the steps, several times, just to make sure he had the hang of it. Once he "got it", on hot days we started throwing him in for "practice" and just to cool him off. He never once thanked us, and instead he preferred to cower by his (blocked) doggie door until it was safe to hang out with us again.
Today was his first day back in the pool since last year, but instead of throwing him in (a job that the three guys in our house are delighted to do) I led him to the steps with his leash. He fought tooth and nail, and even his favorite treats weren't enough motivation. But with Terry's help we pretty much forced him onto the first shallow step where the water is about 2" deep. He was not happy, but took it all the same. I eventually got him to the second step and even to swim out about a half a foot, but certainly not on his own accord.
He was really happy - as always - to be back on solid ground, but instead of letting him cower in the hot sun outside his doggie door I decided to tether him to the column on the patio where he watched Suzy enjoy the pool.
So to any of our friends or relatives out there are thinking about visiting this summer, what's stopping you?
