September highlights
September was a busy month for us! Yeah, I know, we're already almost a week into October but I was out of town for a few days and now just catching up. Here's what we were up to last month...
- Terry and I celebrated our 16th anniversary. I feel truly blessed that I have the good fortune to spend my life with my best friend. I can't imagine what I'd do without him.
- The DAWGS are doing awesome! We are confident they will be going to the playoffs and possibly state championships, but we'll take one step at a time. Justin got an exciting touchdown in their September 18th game - he broke through the line and was GONE. Ran it for about 50+ yards. He's been working on improving his running skills and speed and it really shows.
- Speaking of football, we've been watching the NFL a bit. Terry still roots for the Buffalo Bills but I gave up on them years ago. I have been cheering for the Arizona Cardinals but honestly they aren't much better! We just love watching football in general and will watch whatever game is on.
- Eric's been doing well at Discount Tire and he loves it too. He just slings tires for hours and is happy to do it. He is exhausted by day's end, but he's happy to be getting the exercise. That, along with his frequent trips to the gym, have him getting kind of buff.
- On the 18th we went to the Discount Tire annual party at the Westin Kierland Hotel. This year is DTC's 50th anniversary so it was like an extra excuse for people to party it up. They really are a great company to work for plus their business model is so successful. The party was nice as always, and at the end we got to boogie down to the Groove Merchants. Fun!
- I started volunteering at the animal shelter where we adopted Duke, Friends for Life. I love it! I get to walk, play and interact with all sorts of smart, fun and adorable dogs. On October 9th they have a fair called Barktoberfest that we're looking forward to, and in November Duke and the shelter dogs get to be in the Gilbert Days parade!
- I'm so happy 'normal' TV is on again. I missed my network shows! I regularly watch Desperate Housewives (though it's a love/hate relationship there), How I Met Your Mother, The Middle, Cougartown, The Office, 30 Rock and now Outsourced (which is hilarious!). Of course our cable show Mad Men only has a few episodes left (boo!) and it won't be long before Project Runway, Weeds and The Big C are also done for the season.
- As I mentioned I traveled recently for a business trip. I was in Las Vegas last week for an educational meeting hosted by Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah's Entertainment. Harrah's owns Planet Hollywood Hotel (where I stayed), Caesar's Palace, the Rio, Paris, Bally's, the Flamingo and a few other properties. They put on a great event and not only did I enjoy the educational stuff, I also had a lot of fun and spent some valuable time with an important client. I am glad to be home, but my feet are still aching! Vegas is such a walking city and my plantar fasciitis suffered.
- We got Eric's senior portraits and Justin's school pictures back. And oh yeah, also the football pics. I think half my August paycheck went to photos! Most of which was of course Eric's - the least expensive option was to purchase the images on CD (which includes the copyright release) and then have them printed via Wal-Mart. They actually came out great!
Well that pretty much sums up our September. October should be another month filled with football, family and fun. And Halloween too!
