April-May-June Highlights

April
On the first Saturday of the month, my friend Julie and I went to a flea market in Cave Creek, a mountainside town about 45 minutes from here. Neither of us had ever been to one before and we both enjoyed it tremendously. It was fun enough looking through all the antiques and re-imagined items, but we also each scored some good deals on some unique finds. One of my big ones was this awesome refurbished swivel barstool/chair... I also snagged a vintage scarf, some pretty brooches and an old book for a future craft project.

May
Eric has been stationed at JBER (Ft. Richardson) near Anchorage, Alaska since about April or so - and I'm trying to send him care packages once a month. In this month's installment I included these sugar cookies which I think came out pretty nicely. He's been sending us pics of moose and other things from his various adventures. I know he misses home, but he seems to be doing very well on his own. We really miss him though!

May was also busy with other activities, including a father/son football game where we raised money for the booster club by having Cow Chip Bingo. We set up a corral, painted a grid on it, and each person had the opportunity to purchase one or more "squares". That night, we let a couple cows loose. When the first cow pooped, the person who 'owned' that square won $1000. We had prizes for the 2nd and 3rd poop too. It was a lot of fun, and Justin even got to ride one of the cows.

June
The biggest thing that happened in June was that I started a new job! I made a total career change and am now a 911 Operator for the Police Department in one of our local towns. I've only been there for about 3 weeks but so far I really love it. It's a big change, but it truly is something new every day. Through June I worked the graveyard shift (we do four 10-hour days in a row, with 3 days off) which was an adjustment but it worked out OK. Now that I'm done with the first wave of training I'll be on a morning shift for part two, which will last a few months.

Looking forward to July, the most exciting thing is our impending vacation to the UP of Michigan. We haven't had a family trip in a long, long time, so we are really looking forward to it!
